Joel Tenenbaum

Professor of Physics and Scientific Computing

Director of the Center for Meteorological Modeling

Ph.D. in Physics, Harvard University, 1969

Research Interests:

I did my graduate and post-doctoral work in experimental elementary particle physics which included extensive computer modeling of particle collisions in spark chambers. Upon coming to Purchase I changed fields to dynamic meteorology but continued using the techniques of numerical modeling. Because of the voluminous amounts of data that emerges from such models, I have also become interested in computer graphics. More generally I have worked in various aspects of Purchase's Environmental Science program including climate and energy policy.

Other Interests: My main outside interests are hiking, camping, and an amateur's approach to geology. More passively, I enjoy listening to classical music, Gilbert and Sullivan, and Broadway musicals. Other interests include travel (helped by research that has me riding around in the cockpits of British Airway's 747's) and bicycling.
